“We started bringing our young Portuguese Water dog to the Reliable Dog a bit over two years ago. Our dog was pretty crazy and filled with energy. Previously, we had taken our dog to doggy day cares hoping to wear him out, but he would come bounding out as energetic as ever. Ian and his staff reinforced what training he had and continued to further train him, exercising his brain as well as his body. Our dog happily goes in to see Ian and his staff, tail wagging when he sees them. The atmosphere in the doggy room is quiet and calm, it's amazing to see them all relaxing on their beds waiting for their next activity. At home our dog is much better behaved and listens when we ask something of him. Needless to say we have been very happy at the Reliable Dog and would highly recommend them to anyone.”

Why Falmouth Dog Owners Choose The Reliable Dog
The Reliable Dog is different from other Cape Cod dog trainers in a few specific ways:
Locally based in Falmouth
We’re not traveling in from off-Cape. Our facility is right here, and we understand what it means to have a dog who thrives in the Cape Cod environment year-round.
Balanced, holistic training
We use a positive reinforcement marker system that builds obedience, confidence, and resiliency simultaneously—not just compliance with a single cue.
Owner education is built in
Every program includes education for you, because a reliable dog requires a reliable owner. You’ll leave understanding your dog, not just having a dog who “knows commands.”
Appropriate for every dog
All ages, breeds, and temperaments. Whether you have a nervous rescue, a high-drive working dog, or a pandemic puppy who never learned proper social skills, we have a track for your dog.
Led by professionals
Ian Pullen, our lead trainer, is a professional member of the International Association of Canine Professionals (IACP).
Frequently Asked Questions from Falmouth Dog Owners
-
-
Yes. Private lessons can be conducted at your home, which is particularly useful for addressing behavior issues that are tied to your specific environment, like door-dashing, home-specific reactivity, or training around your household distractions.
-
We work with dogs at every life stage. Our Day School puppy track is open to dogs 4–6 months old (with vaccinations), and our standard programs serve dogs 6 months and older. It’s never too late to start.
-
Falmouth town beaches permit dogs off-season (after Labor Day through Memorial Day), and some require a permit. The Falmouth Dog Park is the primary year-round off-leash space. Reliable recall (a dog who comes back immediately when called) is the foundational skill any dog needs before going off-leash safely, and it’s one of the first things we build.

The first step is a consultation with our lead trainer. This allows us to assess your dog, discuss your goals, and determine which program is the best fit. Please fill out our contact form to schedule.
